太极
Wu Ji (Wuji, 无极) means the neutral starting position in Tai Chi. It is the basic standing posture before movement begins. For beginners, Wu Ji helps build balance, calm breathing, and body awareness.
Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart. Keep your knees soft, not locked. Relax your shoulders and let your arms hang naturally. This simple posture teaches you how to feel stable and centered.
Breathe in slowly through your nose and breathe out gently. Keep your spine long and your chin slightly tucked. In Tai Chi, this is called body alignment.
Do not use too much force. Tai Chi uses song (relaxed release, 松), which means letting the body stay loose but not weak. Practice for 3 to 5 minutes each day.
Many beginners raise their shoulders or lean forward. Some also make their legs too stiff. Try to stay natural and comfortable.
A good Wu Ji stance should feel grounded and light at the same time. When you can stand well, later Tai Chi movements become much easier.
